RESEARCH ISSUE: The Global Ageing Crises
Rationale
The world is in amidst of a unique and irreversible process of demographic transition that has resulted in older populations everywhere. People are living longer and, in some parts of the world, healthier lives. This represents one of the crowning achievements of the last century but also a significant challenge. Longer lives have to be planned for. However, now as the elderly population of the world has had a significant and massive increase through the last years, these old dependents have started becoming an issue for the society rather then being contributors to the development of the world. This issue interested us the most as we started sympathizing towards their conditions. There are many other issues like Pollution or Gender Discrimination being talked about throughout the world for years now. We wanted to get to know about this lesser known global issue that is budding to a larger extent now. By the end of our research, we would also want to prove that ageing actually matters.
Aims of the Project
It is with the concern for the old dependents of the globe and their physical and mental health that we have decided to examine this issue. We plan to talk about the extent that this issue has affected the world, using the area of study named “Family and Demographic Change”. We have seen that this issue is not given the importance that it deserves, or rather requires. Therefore, by the end of the project research we wish to identify and effectively portray our findings about the impact that it has made on the society, amongst different ages of people, throughout the world.
Secondly, we also wish to list down problems faced by the elderly and provide efficient solutions for the same.
Thirdly, we will talk to various people from all around the world as well as locally to get their opinions about this issue. Doing so in the cross culture collaboration activity will help us get to know better about conditions in other countries of the worlds and the solutions that are being initiated to solve this issue.
Intended Outcome
The intended outcome is an informative research document wherein we will present our findings. The document will contain information on this issue, the results to all the sub-questions that we plan to ponder upon while we are on this project.
Research sub-questions:
1. What is ageing? What happens to a person, as he grows old?
2. How has the issue of ageing affected the world? And to what extent?
3. Why is there an increase in the ageing population through recent years?
4. What are the problems faced by the elderly population?
5. What are effective solutions that could be given to solve these issues faced by the elderly?
